A healthy and beautiful smile is what dentistry is all about. People missing teeth and those who wear dentures require a specialized service, a service for patients who aren’t good candidates for other types of tooth replacements such as dental implants.

Hill Dentistry provides a personalized denture service that meet the needs and comfort levels of all patients. Every patient is unique. That’s why Hill Dentistry creates one-of-a-kind dentures that feel just as good as they look.

Dentures are removable natural-looking replacement teeth.

Your dentist in Grants Pass explains that there are two types of dentures: full and partial.

  • Full dentures are for patients who have had all of their natural teeth removed. Your dentist places conventional full dentures after the gum tissue has healed, Healing can take several months. Immediate full dentures are placed right after tooth removal and may require frequent adjustments during the first couple of months of use.
  • Partial dentures are attached to a metal frame connected to natural teeth. Partials are used to fill in where permanent teeth have been removed and an alternative to permanent dental bridges.

Not everyone is a good candidate for dentures. If you’re interested in learning more about dentures and want to know if they are the right for you, please schedule an appointment. Our team will be happy to answer any questions you might have, and can determine the best course of treatment for your ongoing dental health care.

Just like natural teeth, dentures require daily maintenance. This keeps your replacement teeth clean and bacteria from in your mouth.

  • Keeping Dentures Clean

    • Stand over a clean, folded towel or a sink full of water with dentures in hand. This keeps you from accidentally dropping your dentures In addition they are less likely to break.
    • Dentures are not immune to plaque and tartar build-up. Brush your replacement teeth using a soft-bristled brush. Gently brush the surfaces of the dentures, being careful not to break or bend the plastic. Between brushings, it’s important to rinse after each meal.
    • Clean your dentures with a gentle cleanser. Many household cleaners, toothpastes and mouthwashes can be much too hard on dentures. It is recommended that you use a mild hand or dish soap to get your dentures clean. Be sure to check for the American Dental Association (ADA) seal of approval to choose products that are safe for your dentures, or ask your dentist about which products are best.
    • When you are not wearing, dentures must kept moist. Dentures that are not kept in a denture cleaning solution or in water can dry out, lose their shape, crack or break. Certain styles of dentures require certain soaking solutions, so be sure to ask your dentist which solution is best for you.
    • Even if you have a full set of dentures, it’s important to keep your gums and tongue clean. Use a soft-bristled brush to clean your gums and tongue every day.

If your dentures do break, contact Hill Dentistry and schedule an appointment as soon as possible.

Broken or dentures that don’t fit properly will cause mouth and gum irritation. Don’t forget to schedule regular dental checkups every six months to make sure that your smile stays healthy and beautiful as well. Schedule a dental appointment today.
